NOTICE


About two weeks ago an employee in our office waited on a member of the public that had been hospitalized for the COVID-19 virus.  At some point during the process the member of the general public informed the employee that they had just been released from the hospital due to the COVID-19.   It appears that the citizen was not forthcoming with the screening taking place out in front of the courthouse.  Today that same employee displayed multiple symptoms of the COVID-19 virus. Upon learning of the symptoms the employee was sent for a COVID-19 test and the results will not be back for 6-8 days. 

I have consulted with the County Manager several times today and at this time we both feel that some precautions need to be made to protect the general public and frequent users of our office.  The County's Health Department Supervisor considers each employee of the Register of Deeds Office to have been directly exposed to the COVID-19. 

1.  The office is being fumigated and cleaned tonight. 

2. Notice of possible COVID-19 exposure will be posted at the front door to the office, if you enter that's your choice. 

3.  We will keep the office closed to the general public pending the results of the COVID-19 test the best we can.  Anything that can be handled by email or phone will be. 

4. We will post the office phone number, 336-342-8820, at the front door. Any attorney that requests entry to the public search room should call for the door to be unlocked for them and entry granted.  We request that you wear a mask while in the office.  It's your personal safety and you should take any precautions you feel necessary while visiting our office.

5. Clorox wipes will be put in the public search room for use on the equipment prior to your usage 

6. The Register of Deeds staff has been instructed to keep their glass windows closed and only open them as necessary to pass documents back and forth.  They have also been advised to wear a mask when their windows are open.

 If you have any questions I will be happy to answer them as best I can.

While the courthouse has security procedures in place, you must show valid identification and fill out forms for certain requests. You MAY bring purses, glasses, keys, and the like into the courthouse; just NO cellphones, smartwatches (Apple, etc.) or anything that can be considered a weapon.

Signage is located on courthouse grounds prior to entering the building.

Notaries needing to take their oath Senate Bill 704 (b1) has been ratified to extend the deadline for any Notary Public taking their oath to 90 days. (b1) Notwithstanding subsection (b) of this section, if the Secretary grants a commission after March 9, 2020, and before August 1, 2020, the appointee shall have 90 days to appear before the register of deeds to take the general oath of office.”
