Suspect admitted to intentionally setting fire & was charged w/a Class H Felony, Burning of Personal Property & held in Rockingham County Jail under $15,000.00 bond.
 
ROCKINGHAM COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF EMERGENCY SERVICES PRESS RELEASE STOKESDALE FIRE INTENTIONALLY SET & SUSPECT CHARGED

On Sunday, March 10, 2019 at 7:08 p.m., responders were dispatched to 133 A & Y Road, Stokesdale, for a structure fire.  Upon arrival, fire personnel from Stokesdale, Summerfield and Huntsville Fire Departments observed an outside building on fire. 

The Rockingham County Fire Marshal’s Office responded and assisted in determining that the fire was intentionally set. 

The Fire Marshal’s Office then interviewed the suspect, Austin Jack Knight, who was already in the custody of the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office for other domestic related charges that occurred just prior to the fire. 

The suspect admitted to intentionally setting the fire and was subsequently charged with a Class H Felony, Burning of Personal Property.  Knight was held in the Rockingham County Jail under a $15,000.00 bond. 

Charges from this case are a result of partnerships with the Rockingham County Fire Marshal’s Office, Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, Stokesdale, Summerfield and Huntsville Fire Departments.
